How to Fix Standing Water in a Commercial Dishwasher
Commercial kitchen dishwashers are built to withstand heavy usage, but it’s not uncommon for even the best commercial dishwashers to encounter problems. If you notice water sitting at the bottom of your professional-grade dishwasher, here are some things you can do.

1. Clean Out Dishwasher
Even if you can’t see any debris or tools causing a blockage, there may be a hidden issue that’s not easily visible. Empty the dishwasher, put a solution of 1 part vinegar to 1 part baking soda into the dishwasher’s detergent compartment, and run the dishwasher using hot water. This can break up clogs and remove mineral buildup.
2. Unplug Power Cord
Before inspecting your commercial kitchen’s dishwasher components or taking anything apart, be sure to unplug its power cord. Water and electricity are a dangerous mix, and you can never be too careful.
3. Manually Unclog in Dishwasher
If you see that a clog is responsible for the buildup of water in your dishwasher, clean its drain basket or try to loosen the clog from the mesh lining of the drain basket. Alternatively, clean the dishwasher’s sump.
Mineral buildup can also block the drain hose in a commercial dishwasher, especially in areas with hard water. Gently remove the drain hose by opening the dishwasher’s front panel, look to see if any debris or buildup is present, and clear it out.
4. Scoop Out Standing Water From the Bottom of the Dishwasher
If you can’t figure out the cause of standing water being present in your dishwasher, get out some towels, place them around the dishwasher, and scoop out water between uses until a professional can come out and take a look at it. Doing so is better in the long run than allowing water to collect, especially if you run a busy commercial kitchen.
