How to Make S’mores Brownies

August 10th marks National S’mores Day! Although s’mores are typically a campfire treat, the sugary goodness can be enjoyed in lots of other applications too. This recipe pairs the classic treat with another classic: brownies. Grab your ingredients, fire up the oven and celebrate National S’more Day the right way!

S’mores Brownies

Ingredients

For the crust

6 tablespoons butter, melted and cooled

2 cups graham crackers, crumbled

2 tablespoons sugar

½ teaspoon salt

For the brownies

1 stick unsalted butter

8 ounces bittersweet chocolate

1 cup all-purpose flour

½ teaspoon salt

2 eggs

½ cup sugar

1 ½ teaspoons vanilla

10 ounces large marshmallows

To make the crust: Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease an 8×8-inch pan and set aside. Combine the melted butter and graham cracker crumbs until well combined. Pour crumbs in pan and press with a fork until evenly aligned along the bottom and sides. Bake for 20 minutes, remove from oven and set aside.

To make the brownies: Increase the oven temperature to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Prepare the brownie layer by combining the butter and chocolate in a saucepan over low heat. Remove saucepan from heat and set aside to cool. In a medium bowl, combine the flour and salt and set aside. In a stand mixer with a paddle attachment, beat the eggs and sugar until fluffy. Add in the vanilla extract, and gently mix in the chocolate. Fold in the flour slowly. Pour the brownie batter evenly over the graham cracker crust, then cook for 23 minutes.

To make the marshmallow layer: Turn your oven to broil. Arrange the marshmallows on top of the baked brownies. Place the pan on the lower rack of your oven and broil for 1 to 2 minutes, or until the marshmallows are melted and light brown.
